National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA), a coalition of community organizations, released a powerful new report, “Shifting Policies, Lasting Impacts: A 100-Day Review of the Trump Administration’s Impact on AANHPI Communities.”
As we celebrate the diversity, resilience, and power of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) this Heritage Month, we must also confront the policy decisions that impact our lives and further structural inequities. This report offers a comprehensive analysis of the administration’s early executive actions and shifting policy changes, focusing on how these changes have affected, and in some cases harmed, AANHPI families across the nation.
Drawing on the expertise of NCAPA’s member organizations, this report examines and documents the impact of the administration’s policy actions in the first 100 days across 8 critical issue areas: Civil Rights, Immigration, Health, Education, Housing and Economic Justice, Destruction of Civil Society, Environmental Justice, and AANHPI representation. Shifting Policies, Lasting Impacts highlights how policy changes at the federal level, such as rollbacks on civil rights protections, drastic shifts in immigration enforcement, and weakening support of public services have deeply impacted AANHPI communities.
“This report isn’t just a policy overview—it’s a reflection of lived experiences,” says NCAPA National Director Gregg Orton. “Within just 100 days, the Trump Administration has advanced an agenda that sidelined inclusion, fueled fear in immigrant communities, and has left AANHPI families and communities more vulnerable and with fewer opportunities than before. We believe it’s vital to document and learn from these intended harms so we can chart a path forward rooted in justice, equity, and accountability.”
Our report also serves as a call to action, urging policymakers, advocates, the media, and philanthropy to center AANHPI voices in the national discussion of the administration’s policy agenda and recommitting to inclusion, equity, and justice for all communities.
