The National Council of Asian Pacific Americans Releases 2020 Policy Platform;
Focuses on COVID-19, Immigration, Civil Rights, Health, Education
Washington, DC—Today, the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA), a coalition of thirty-six organizations dedicated to the advancement of the Asian American, National Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) communities released its 2020 Policy Platform. This platform, published every four years, aims to provide important context and recommendations to the elected officials, candidates, and the public about important issues impacting the AA and NHPI community.
These issues include, but are not limited to: COVID-19, AAPI visibility/inclusion, immigration, civil rights, health, education, and housing. As the coalition that serves the fastest growing community in the United States, NCAPA calls on leaders, regardless of political affiliation, to engage and discuss these important issues.
NCAPA National Director, Gregg Orton said:
“The NCAPA Policy Platform marks the culmination of a collaborative project that reflects the best of what NCAPA represents: a diverse group of AA and NHPI leaders coming together to craft a cohesive narrative that uplifts the voices of our community. The recommendations contained in this platform are a direct challenge to the notion that our community is not engaged on the issues that impact our lives. They are also an invitation to any elected leader to work with us and build genuine partnerships aimed at improving the lives of the Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders that they represent.
The COVID-19 crisis is a challenge that we all must face together to overcome. The social and economic fallout will require policy solutions that take into account all of America’s diversity. We are resolute that our country can rebuild and heal, but we are equally resolute that AA and NHPIs should have a seat at the table as we move forward together.”
