National CAPACD: Trauma and Healing in AA and NHPI Community Organizations
May 11 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT
This week marks the beginning of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, and it is also Mental Health Awareness Month. Despite the importance of mental health, it’s a topic that has been stigmatized within Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) communities. AAs and NHPIs have long been affected by the traumas of violence, poverty, land theft, war, and racism. Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crash have created new waves of mental health challenges in our communities.
On May 11, join us for a webinar to learn how community development nonprofits that work in these communities can be more trauma-informed and more effectively and authentically partner with residents of marginalized communities. You’ll hear directly from some of our members about how they navigate trauma to promote healing and understanding with the communities they serve.
Speakers will include:
● Aisha Choudhry, MSW, LCSW, Therapist, Raksha, Inc.
● Leialoha Kaʻula, Executive Director, Ka ʻAha Lāhui O ʻOlekona Hawaiian Civic Club (KALO HCC) of Oregon and SW Washington
● Susana Sngiem, MSW, Executive Director, United Cambodian Community
