Asian Americans and Disinformation: A Critical Discussion

August 4 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

Disinformation is more than just lies, it is about power. Join us on Thursday, August 4 from 7 – 8:30 pm est (4 – 5:30 pm pst) for Asian Americans & Disinformation: A Critical Discussion. RSVP at bit.ly/AADisinfo
Addressing disinformation in Asian and Asian American communities must be connected to power building, narrative change, and healing from historical traumas and contemporary violences. Disinformation is explicitly designed to expose the frictions, fault lines, and tensions within and across our various diasporic communities and also used to maintain existing inequities. Experts, organizers, and researchers share case studies about information harms within and about our communities from different diasporic, transnational, and political contexts and across multiple digital platforms. Panelists include Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC), Equality Labs, Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO), and more.
This event is hosted by the Asian American Disinformation Table, a national interfaith, inter-caste, multi-ethnic, multi-language coalition to coordinate research, strategies, policy recommendations, and messaging interventions, housed under the Disinformation Defense League and National Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans. Our goal as a table is to scope the problem of racialized disinformation in a holistic way for all of our communities so that we can not only name this problem but also work collectively to heal and build power.
