AAPCHO Preventing Liver Cancer & Hepatitis B in the U.S. : A Step Towards Viral Hepatitis Elimination

May 16 @ 12:00 pm 1:00 pm America/Washington, DC

Hepatitis B is the world’s leading cause of primary liver cancer, yet nearly 70% of adults in the U.S. are unvaccinated for hepatitis B, and two-thirds of those living with the virus are unaware of their infection. With new adult hepatitis B vaccination and screening recommendations from the CDC and a national strategic framework to eliminate viral hepatitis from HHS, Congress has multiple avenues to support essential activities that can prevent liver cancer – one of the deadliest cancers in the world. Panelists will discuss the state of the deadliest cancers in the U.S., the connection between liver cancer and hepatitis B, current efforts to address gaps in hepatitis B prevention, and policies and legislation that Congress can support to advance liver cancer prevention.
