RELEASE DATE

January 19th, 2022

Washington, DC —  On January 17th, 2023, the Biden-Harris Administration released its first comprehensive strategy aimed at advancing equity for the Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities.

NCAPA National Director, Gregg Orton:

“The Biden-Harris Administration’s national strategy for AANHPIs marks a significant achievement, as well as a strong foundation to build upon for its record on advancing equity for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. To have nearly every major federal agency explicitly acknowledge the importance of AANHPI issues within the scope of their work is a simple benchmark, but is also a breakthrough that carries meaning for the community.

As with any plan, implementation and building on next steps is equally, if not, more important; however, this is a moment we should all take to appreciate this accomplishment.

On behalf of the entire coalition, thank you to President Biden and Vice President Harris for their continued commitment and leadership. We also thank Secretary Becerra and Ambassador Tai for their support within WHIAANHPI and the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. Finally, we thank and commend the work of the WHIAANHPI staff and the Commissioners whose labor helped make this strategy possible.”

Based in Washington, D.C., the National Council ofAsian Pacific Americans is a coalition of thirty-eight national Asian Pacific American organizations that represent the interests of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) communities and to provide a national voice for our communities’ concerns.
