NCAPA Statement on 2025 Election Results
The National Council of Asian Pacific Americans issued the following statement after Muslim American candidates were declared winners in electoral races across the country:
“We congratulate Zohran Mamdani, Ghazala Hashmi, and others for their history-making elections. Their victories serve as an important reminder of what truly makes America unique: no matter your race, religion or gender, when democratic principles are upheld, everyday Americans can rise to meet the call of public service. And while we recognize that being an elected official will always come with its detractors, we unequivocally reject the virulent racism and Islamophobia that is running rampant in our nation’s public discourse.
“We are saddened and angered that hate has become a brand for so many in this country. We join with Muslim American leaders who have been warning that normalizing this rhetoric endangers the safety of all our communities, and diminishes everyone.
“We commend these newly elected leaders for being proof positive of what is possible when candidates commit to genuine community organizing and engagement, and celebrate the diversity they bring to our country’s leadership. “
