RELEASE DATE

January 28, 2025

NCAPA issued the following statement regarding the Office of Management and Budget’s memo to all federal departments and agencies calling for a pause, starting today, January 28th at 5pm, on federal grants and loans with the exception of Social Security, Medicare and other programs providing direct aid to individuals:

“President Trump’s decision to freeze federal financial assistance and grants will have a devastating impact on millions of Americans. This pause will disproportionately impact AANHPIs and other vulnerable communities served by essential federally-funded programs, ultimately jeopardizing the safety, health, and economic opportunities of millions of families across the country.

NCAPA denounces this decision in no uncertain terms, as it will cut off lifelines to already under-resourced communities and result in far-reaching consequences. Our member organizations and local community nonprofits around the country work tirelessly every day to meet the needs of AANHPI individuals and families, from healthcare and supporting aging populations to providing access to housing – work that federal funding has consistently supported for years across many administrations.

More than anything, this freeze puts on full display the true agenda of this administration: to inflict harm and take away opportunities for communities of color. These attacks on critical programs have never been about ‘unity’ or ending ‘divisiveness’ – instead, they are about rolling back progress for marginalized communities.”
