NCAPA Condemns Latest Trump Muslim Ban

Yesterday, the Trump Administration announced a revised order that indefinitely expands its Muslim and travel ban to eight countries. The new Muslim ban impacts immigrants and visitors from Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen and newly includes selected travelers from Venezuela and North Korea. Regardless of the Administration’s efforts to hide the impact of this new directive, this is nothing more than another attempt by the Administration to uphold the Muslim ban and delay any opposition. The National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA) condemns this ban, which remains un-American, discriminatory and xenophobic in any form.

Through the Chinese Exclusion Act, Japanese American incarceration, and the forced special registration of Muslim and South Asian men after 9/11, history has shown us that these inhumane and unconstitutional policies do not make our country any safer.

Following the revised ban, the Supreme Court canceled its original Oct. 10 oral arguments. NCAPA has endorsed the #NoMuslimBanEver campaign aimed at increasing awareness and mobilizing communities. We continue to stand united in opposition to this ban and any exclusionary policies that seek to divide us.

NCAPA members issued the following statements:

###

Based in Washington, D.C., the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans is a coalition of 34 national Asian Pacific American organizations that serves to represent the interests of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities and to provide a national voice for our communities’ concerns. Our communities are the fastest growing racial/ethnic group in the United States, currently making up approximately six percent of the population.
